Position Summary: Supervision of all Best Friends Roadhouse housekeeping and laundry operations.

As with all positions at the Best Friends Roadhouse & Mercantile, this is a hands-on position. The Housekeeping Supervisor is expected to work alongside housekeeping and laundry associates to clean rooms and common areas, perform routine manual tasks to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions throughout the Roadhouse guest and common areas, and to oversee the operation of our on-premise laundry.  

The Housekeeping Supervisor will work with the staff and Roadhouse Manager for all ordering needs, scheduling and training and advancing of housekeeping and laundry areas to provide an excellent experience for our staff and our guests.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Supervising and assisting the Housekeeping team, and laundry
  • Maintain Materials Safety Data Sheets on all appropriate Housekeeping products
  • Instruct staff in the importance of safety procedures, especially proper lifting, and protecting associates from blood borne pathogens and sharps
  • Working with management and staff in coaching and mentoring associates
  • Must be able to work as a team player        
  • Ensuring a safe, healthy and positive work environment
  • Leading and motivating, working by example.
  • Assisting Roadhouse Manager in training and orienting new staff in our standard operating procedures and daily / weekly / monthly / seasonal tasks
  • Assist Roadhouse Manager with input for performance reviews and objective development
  • Re-training and re-orienting any current staff to our standards, procedures and daily tasks when necessary.
  • Overseeing daily operations of the Housekeeping Department and areas under its purview.
  • Maintaining payroll through ADP and manage time off requests
  • Reporting monthly statistics to Manager, Visitor Experience
  • Working closely and cooperatively with other Departments, such as Lodging, HR for guest housing, Accounting for ordering, special request for cleaning and especially the Maintenance Department to ensure all details are attended to
  • Identifying problems and challenges and offering solutions to Roadhouse Manager.
  • Interacting positively with our guests, answering questions and assisting them with their needs. Being sensitive to any comments by staff and guests for necessary improvements and reporting of same
  • Maintaining key inventory with assistance from Lodging Department and Manager, Visitor Experience
  • Maintaining and ordering supplies needed for purchase and make sure that no items run out of stock
  • Scheduling shifts for all appropriate staff
  • Supervising cleaning schedules of all areas
  • Keeping abreast of BFAS current news and communicating relevant information to restaurant staff members
  • Participate in all housekeeping and laundry-related tasks at any given time including cleaning assigned areas to include but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, washing windows and walls, dusting, vacuuming, laundry, trash removal and scrubbing various buildings on a regular schedule
  • Keep public areas, public restrooms and units stocked with toiletries and supplies and report maintenance needs
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies, paper products and other provisions
  • Perform routine light maintenance and repair, such as changing light bulbs, tightening toilet seats, cleaning up after vermin, shoveling snow and placing cinders, TV/cable troubleshooting, plunging toilets, touch up painting, window screens and blind repairs, replacing compact fridges, microwaves and coffee makers and pulling weeds around units
  • Clean up after emergencies, such as overflowing toilet, broken dishes and animal accidents on floors and furniture
  • Interact with our guests, answering questions and assisting guests with their needs
  • Being sensitive to comments by guests for improvements, and reporting same
  • Responding to special requests from guests, such as fresh towels, sheets, light cleaning, early check-ins or late check-outs
  • Assist guests with unusual needs, i.e. jumping a dead battery, pushing vehicle out of the mud or snow and contacting other associates to assist
  • Maintaining laundry so items are always available in the storeroom
  • Bring any issues immediately to the attention of the Roadhouse manager
  • Keep abreast of BFAS current news by checking personal email daily
  • Engage in a safe, healthy, and positive work environment
  • Identify improvement to tasks
  • Other duties as assigned by Team Lead, Manager, Visitor Experience                                                                                  

Education: High School Degree

Experience: Previous related supervisory experience required in housekeeping


  • Outgoing positive personality and communication skills. The ideal person for this job will be a team player, personable, professional and able to work cooperatively with a wide variety of people including associates, guests and visitors
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Flexible and enjoys handling a variety of tasks
  • Must have a valid driver's license and qualify for BFAS insurance
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays, according to guest count
  • Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner
  • Accurate, appropriate, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong listening skills
  • Basic computer skills required. Must be able to use email and navigate pdf, word, and excel documents. Also need to be able to complete forms, save, and send as attachments to emails
  • Knowledge of lodging property management systems, i.e., Maestro
  • Able and willing to professionally and positively advocate Best Friends position on issues

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to routinely lift 40 pounds
  • Must be able to work out of doors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including, but not limited to climbing up and down ladders, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending
