Position Summary: This position is responsible for maintaining storage areas and distribution of animal food and supplies for the Animal Care Division in a timely, cost efficient and professional manner. The Animal Supply Coordinator role will need to maintain a proactive and solution-based approach to delivering services to all animal care areas. Provides shipping & receiving services as needed.


  • Responsible for recording all incoming and outgoing food and supply usage in inventory systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining clean and organized animal storage areas by keeping areas clear from trash and clutter.
  • Responsible for receiving, retrieving and distributing animal food, cat litter and supplies for Animal Care areas.
  • Employ efficient stock rotation practices for food and supplies.
  • Responsible for quality control ensuring that all food distributed is of high quality and contains no spoiled or contaminated food.
  • Responsible for balancing a weekly delivery schedule with additional tasks and duties.
  • Responsible for daily checks, removing and replacing oxygen tanks at all medical facilities on the Sanctuary.
  • Responsible for bi-weekly produce deliveries to Piggy Paradise.
  • Responsible for storage and delivery of specialty rabbit supplies to the Bunny House.
  • Responsible for checking, refilling and tracking Rescue Cleaner for all Animal Care areas.
  • Responsible for tracking and providing animal food to the on-site Founders.
  • Responsible for providing food and supplies to Best Friends Kanab locations.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and maintain provided OSHA certification and training.
  • Conducts daily safety inspections of forklift.
  • Accepts freight shipments using forklift and/or hand truck.
  • Responsible for providing back-up support for the other two positions in Shipping & Receiving.
  • Provide customer service to any staff member, visitor or volunteer who enters the office.
  • Reports any supply needs to the Shipping & Receiving Manager.
  • Assist with quarterly distribution of supplies to our regional Network Partner's.
  • Attends safety training sessions as provided.
  • Assist in retrieving, processing and closing Shipping Requests that are submitted via Help Desk.
  • Assists with correcting addresses within Blackbaud (CRM) from information provided on returned mailings.
  • Follow Best Friends safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must be personally committed to the Mission and Core Values of the Best Friends Animal Society. ( friends/our-mission)
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work with little supervision. Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Must qualify for Medical Card to transport food in 24' truck.
  • Experience in inventory management, stocking, first in-first out (FIFO) processes.
  • Demonstrate good time management practices.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates accurate, appropriate, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, with the ability to learn new programs. Experience with Microsoft Office, Windows, Springboard, UPS and FedEx software is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, i.e., ability to develop positive relationships with others and demonstrate sensitivity to the thoughts, feelings and perspectives of others.
  • Demonstrates ability to create and encourage a positive work environment.
  • Able and willing to professionally advocate Best Friends position on issues.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and qualify for Best Friends Animal Society vehicle insurance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 80 pounds.
  • Must be able to work out of doors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 100 degrees.
  • Physically able to perform strenuous manual labor.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to obtain a forklift certification required.
