Location: Houston - Remote

Position Summary: The Manager, Foundation Partnerships will work with, and under the supervision of, the Director of Foundation Partnerships with responsibilities for all aspects of securing and managing foundation partnerships. Primary responsibilities include grant seeking from high-capacity foundations and grants management activities, developing partnerships with high-level foundations, tracking grants revenue and expenditures, managing the team's stewardship activities, supervising Foundation Partnerships staff, writing proposals and reports, and developing strong internal relationships to aid grant seeking and management. 

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Help secure the Foundation Partnerships team's goal of at least $6M in grants, annually.
  • Oversee and execute on the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of existing and new high-capacity foundation partners.
  • Personally manage a balanced portfolio of foundations that are capable of making 6- to 7-figure transformational grants, and annual giving foundations.
  • Advance the Foundation Partnerships team strategy in high-quality relationship development, focusing on creating meaningful partnerships that have significant impact on mission achievement and lifesaving.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership in securing and organizing regular in-person meetings with high-capacity foundation prospects and partners that lead to transformational partnerships.
  • Proactively manage the proposal writing workflow for key foundation prospects and collaborate on corporate and major donor proposals when needed.
  • Manage Foundation Partnerships team member(s) to ensure work supports the team strategy and key performance metrics, while supporting organizational needs.
  • Track progress of revenue goals via shared system to ensure staff is informed of needs and progress to goals.
  • Ensure Director is briefed on all aspects of team progress, needs, issues, and successes.
  • Prepare letters of inquiry, formal proposals, and grant reports for foundations.
  • Research potential funders and use the constituent relationship management (CRM) database to track prospects and partners through all stages of relationship management.
  • Work collaboratively with program directors and managers to gather information on funding needs and compile documents and budgets for grant requests and organizational funding strategies.
  • Support program directors and managers in new program and budget development activities, as necessary.
  • Work with program managers and the finance office to ensure restricted grants are properly spent and to prepare expenditure reports for foundation partners.
  • Maintain a calendar of submissions, reports, events, other deadlines.
  • Ensure Foundation Partnerships team members enter data correctly and timely into CRM database.
  • Supervise and implement regular stewardship activities for personal portfolio of foundation partners.
  • Participate in a bi-annual Foundation Partnerships team performance review to assess retention, growth, and management of foundation partners and productivity of team members. 

Skills / Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree (Masters Preferred).
  • 4+ years of experience in grant writing and relationship management with proven success in identifying and securing multiple 6- to 7-figure+ foundation partnerships.
  • Experience securing in-person meetings with foundation prospects and partners.
  • Must possess superior written skills including the ability to edit for quality, congruity, and style.
  • A creative and strategic thinker who understands long-term strategy and can translate and implement these goals on an annual basis.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and thrive under pressure and on deadline.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and ability to quickly work on and complete multiple projects.
  • Ability to assimilate information about programs from a variety of sources in order to make documents persuasive to potential funders.
  • Commitment to team collaboration and communication.
  • Commitment to professional development and learning and implementing new skills.
  • Ability to travel to meet with prospects and partners at least every six weeks, and attend meetings at the Sanctuary and Regional Centers as required.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of fundraising computer programs.
  • Ability to professionally communicate Best Friends' positions on issues.
  • Valid Driver's License with access to transportation to travel on organization business. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Work for extended period of time at a computer with repetitive typing, arm, and hand motion.
  • Travel via various forms of public transportation on behalf of organization business.
