Position Title: Community Cat Program Mentorship Coordinator

Reports to: Community Cat Program Manager

Location: Remote

 

Position Summary: Work with Community Cat Program (CCP) Managers and Regional Specialists on consulting with Network partners around the country that are seeking to establish successful, non-lethal methods of managing cats in their communities. Elements of each project will include a combination of training, support, mentoring and resources. Fill in on-site as needed in new full-scale program cities. The work performed in this position is significant and critical to the success of getting the country to no kill by 2025.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in evaluating CCP applications; creating grant agreements or MOUs for participating programs that clearly outline expectations and deliverables; monitoring grant reports and progress to ensure all contractual obligations are being fulfilled by all parties.
  • Work with manager to develop unique goals per project and to write tactics plans in order to achieve goals.
  • Create new and maintain existing relationships with shelters, organizations and key individuals, represent Best Friends and our brand while building and maintaining these relationships.  
  • Build and maintain project processes and policies for each assigned community cat program. Coordinate with CCP program managers/supervisors to ensure processes and policies remain consistent, where appropriate.
  • Oversee the data collection for each of the programs including shelter stats.
  • Develop and deliver educational materials and tools designed to increase efficiency and effectiveness of community cat programs, including conference presentations, training materials, checklists. Coordinate with CCP managers and supervisors to insure consistency.
  • Assist with and provide news stories as requested by communications division.
  • Contribute to good communication between all CCPs, other national program's departments, and cross-divisionally. Help insure consistency in policies and practices between all ccps, where appropriate.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments/divisions in order to help ensure each department's goals are met and to ensure the capabilities exist to meet assigned CCP goals.
  • Ensure volunteers are being utilized effectively and are a core part of our work by collaborating with visitors and volunteers division.
  • Act as liaison with funders and other key stakeholders as assigned to ensure expectations are being met and relationships are strengthened.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • BA/BS from Accredited Undergraduate College preferred (substitution of work experience for education will be considered).
  • Background in the animal humane movement: 3+ years of experience working for or with an animal welfare organization.
  • Proven ability to promote a positive work environment and be a team player.
  • Ability to act decisively in difficult and fast-paced situations.
  • Ability to identify and escalate critical issues as necessary.
  • Willingness to embrace change.
  • Ability to make sound judgments and work independently in a multi-department environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple parties in resolving issues and providing support and facilitate collaboration.
  • Proven attention to detail with advanced organizational and time management skills.
  • Able to educate people about the process of TNR in a clear and effective manner and professionally advocate Best Friends' position on issues.
  • Knowledge and experience with feral cats and trapping cats, and knowledge about how to safely operate cat traps.
  • Accurate record-keeping and ability to provide monthly reports on various programs.
  • Proficiency with Internet navigation and a variety of computer software. applications, including Microsoft Office. Ability to learn additional software applications, as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Strong skills in time management, problem-solving, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • The ideal person for this job is a team player, personable, professional, upbeat and energetic, takes the initiative, and uses tact and diplomacy.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work some split shifts and irregular hours, which may include early morning and/or late evening hours.
  • Must be able to lift 40-plus pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to work in weather with temperatures varying between extreme hot and extreme cold.
  • Willing and able to travel on behalf of the organization for extended periods of time.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record which meets our insurance provider's requirements while performing the duties of this job in order to maintain employment in this position.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Drive for extended periods of time, alone or with a partner.
  • Ability to work in the presence of both cats and dogs, including large numbers of cats and dogs as in a shelter setting.
  • Ability to be around cats in closed quarters for extended periods of time.
  • Bend, stoop, reach, climb, twist, crawl, stand and walk for extended period of time, etc...
  • Must be able to sit, type, and look at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
