This is a full-time seasonal position through November 2018

Position Summary: The Restaurant Co-worker feeds the people who care for the animals at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.  This person helps create, prepare, and serve quality, healthy lunches at the Angel Village Caf and Canyon Grill, as well as participate in on and off-site special events and catering functions.

The person in this position plays a key role in the hospitality component of our overall visitor experience, ensuring excellent service and professional engagement with the more than 30,000 visitors and volunteers that come to the Sanctuary every year.  They also help build relationships with founders and other staff in their front-facing interaction on a daily basis.  These important connections help build support in fulfillment of Best Friends mission and goals.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Participate in all food preparation and handling.
  • Serve all guests with professionalism, courtesy, and a positive attitude.
  • Bus tables and keep dining room area clean.
  • Keep buffet, salad bar, and drink area well stocked and clean at all times.
  • Wash dishes.
  • Participate in all-around cleaning and deep cleaning.
  • Work on and off site special events and catering functions as needed.
  • Work at the Canyon Grill food truck as needed.
  • Handle and operate all kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Engage in a safe, healthy, and positive work environment.
  • Comply with all health codes and inspections.
  • Accept lunch payments and operate the automated accounting system.
  • Assist other team members with their work.
  • Share ideas for innovation and growth of the food services operation.
  • Participate in recipe and menu development.
  • Identify improvement to tasks and overall operations.
  • Bring any issues immediately to manager's attention.
  • Complete daily tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Keep abreast of BFAS current news.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

 

  • Education: High School diploma.
  • Previous related experience preferable but will train the right person.
  •        Outgoing positive personality and communication skills. The ideal person for this

         job would be a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along well

         with a wide variety of people.

  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Flexible and enjoys handling a variety of tasks.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and qualify for BFAS insurance.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
  • Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Accurate, appropriate, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Must be able to work weekends and some evenings.
  • Able and willing to professionally advocate Best Friends position on issues.                       
  • Must be willing to obtain and pass food safety permit before work can begin.   

                                                

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Must be able to routinely lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to work out of doors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including, but not limited to: climbing up and down ladders, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
