Location: Kanab, Utah

Position Summary: Work closely with Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, Senior Technicians, Team Leader, and other Clinic support staff to provide medical care to all patients seen by the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary Clinic. Position is responsible for the routine and spontaneous tasks required to maintain the cleanliness and sanitary condition of the clinic facility and grounds. If needed: facilitate the comfort, cleanliness and care of the animals in the clinical environment.  

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate professionally to Clients, Veterinary staff, Management and other Sanctuary departments regarding job responsibilities.  
  • Maintain the ability to follow policies and procedures set by the Medical Director and Clinic Manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient status/treatment, client information and other sensitive clinic operations.
  • Have a working knowledge of common medical terminology, transcription and data entry (Avimark).
  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness & visual organization of the clinic and grounds.
  • Maintain general awareness of patient health/changes and notify appropriate staff in a timely manner.
  • Walk and socialize clinic patients as instructed per medical orders.
  • Clean all work areas and appropriately sanitize the clinic and grounds including; mop and Accel  floors, disinfect: water bowls/dishes/litter pans/bedding, laundry, collect trash/recycling, clean exam rooms/restrooms.
  • Process surgical and general laundry daily, based on standard medical protocols.
  • Manage recycling waste.
  • Clean/stock/sanitize patient housing and employee offices/workspaces according to daily/weekly schedule.
  • Organize and maintain inventory for all housekeeping/animal care supplies in an efficient manner.
  • Clean patient housing during hospitalization or after discharge as required.
  • Coordinate open housing for new/existing patients.
  • Maintain inventory and ordering of animal food including: in-house patients and employee prescription diets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience working in a Veterinary clinic, medical facility or Shelter environment preferred.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates approachability when dealing with the general public. Experience in interacting with the general public (customer service) preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to create and encourage a positive work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, upbeat, and energetic, takes initiative uses tact and diplomacy.  
  • Work requires continual attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.  
  • Basic computer skills. Experience with Microsoft Office a plus.
  • Must be able to professionally advocate Best Friends position on issues.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and qualify for Best Friends insurance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to safely lift animals, food, garbage bags, etc, (approx. up to 40-60 pounds).
  • Must be able to stand as well as bend for extended periods of time.
