Position:  Project Manager II, Data and Analytics

Reports to:  Director, Application, PMO, and Web Services

Location:   Kanab, Utah or remote

We're looking for an experienced project manager who can initiate and execute on-time projects working with a variety of teams.  A friendly and open style of communication is great, along with some flexibility and multi-tasking talent, in case the team needs help with something unexpected. Position Summary: Responsible for all aspects of project analysis and management.  Collects and documents business requirements. Manages data and analytics projects and ensures successful on-time, on-budget delivery of these projects. Responsibilities include determining project scope, timelines, tracking project progress and measuring outcomes. Collaborates with all internal departments, project stakeholders, and vendors to ensure proper alignment to project strategy, budget and objectives. Assists in the management of change to the organization.  Provides progress reports to the IT Governance Committee and Information Advisory Council.

Responsibilities:

Project Initiation (40%):  

  • Assists business units in developing project requests with ROI, scope, funding requirements and timeline for approval and prioritization by the IT Governance Committee and Information Advisory Council.  
  • Collects and documents requirements, business processes and use cases to ensure project meets business needs.  
  • Makes recommendation on process to the business units to ensure effective use of systems and data.

Project Execution (40%):  

  • Develop project charters and plans specifying goals, strategy, dependencies, staffing, scheduling, risk management/contingency plans, communication plans and allocation of resources.  
  • Build the work breakdown structure including scheduled deliverables and project milestones.  
  • Manage functional and technology resources towards achievement of project goals and timelines, holding them accountable for deliverables.
  • Manage project risk and issues taking corrective action where required.  Report on progress to the IT governance committee.

Change Management (15%):  

  • Develop formal change plans based on project impacts.  
  • Assist business units and technology personnel in managing change across the organization.  
  • Report on change management progress to the IT governance committee.

Best Practices (5%):

  • Keep up to date on business analysis/project management and change best practices and put them into practice within the organization.

Skills and Experience:

  • A baccalaureate degree in business, computer science, information systems or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing data warehouse, business intelligence, data integration, or analytics projects making use of the Microsoft SQL Server BI stack and/or Tableau data visualization platform.
  • 3 years of Business Analysis experience focused on data warehouse, business intelligence, data integration, or analytics projects making use of the Microsoft SQL Server BI stack and/or Tableau data visualization platform.
  • Experience with advanced business process modeling and management
  • Experience with modern "platform as a service" offerings from vendors such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft a plus.
  • PMI Certification a plus
  • Experience managing large, complex projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with formal change management methodologies, e.g. Prosci
  • CRM experience in a nonprofit environment a plus.
  • Experience with Financial Systems
  • Knowledge of animal welfare or shelter management
  • Ability to professionally advocate Best Friends' mission and position on issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work at a computer for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion.
