Position: NY Programs Marketing Specialist

Reports to: Communications Manager, Northeast region

Location: New York Tri-State Area

FLSA status: Exempt

Position Summary: Under the direction of, and in collaboration with, the Northeast Regional Communications Manager, the Marketing Specialist shall be responsible for the research, development, execution and analysis of marketing, advertising, promotions and social media in support of all Tri-State area programs and events. This includes, but is not limited to, programs, promotions and events at the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center (SoHo),  Best Friends Super Adoption Events, Best Friends Strut Your Mutt & national events executed locally. Duties will be carried out in conjunction with Best Friends' Communications divisions and in support of the mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and executing tactical marketing plans to include, but not limited to: strategic and tactical marketing goals in support of defined target markets and demographics consistent with and in collaboration with Best Friends' Communications division
  • Network and capitalize on local relationships with all professional agencies such as advertising, as well as community organizations and local businesses who can help market our programs
  • Collaborative planning, development, execution, and reporting of regional digital campaigns, including online advertising, social engagement, and web/mobile.
  • Partner with digital team as needed to enhance local digital assets including mobile first experiences.
  • Collaborate with local and national marketing specialists to maximize exposure and engage in economy of scale to benefit budgets and awareness when appropriate
  • Coordinate and place media buys, except when global buys are conducted through the Marketing division on a national level.
  • Coordinate and implement in-house collateral.
  • Spearhead online marketing efforts including social media, online advertising, search engine optimization, location based marketing
  • Maintain BFNY website
  • Oversee volunteer efforts specific to marketing purposes (i.e. street team collateral distribution, written assignments as needed, etc.)
  • Ensure that all plans and collateral materials adhere to established brand guidelines and are consistent with the priorities of achieving the mission of Save Them All.
  • Participate in Marketing and Communications team meetings and weekly Programs meetings.
  • Plan and execute participation in local outreach events that help create awareness for the Best Friends brand and mission.

Skills and Experience:

  • At least two years experience in a marketing or public relations role. Degree in marketing or public relations desired
  • Strong interpersonal skills. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along well with a variety of people
  • A solid understanding of social media marketing and other digital advertising channels and processes.
  • Experience wrangling digital assets and leading Quality Assurance with a can-do attitude across local multi-channel marketing campaigns.
  • Professionally advocate Best Friends' positions on issues
  • Willing and able to represent Best Friends position via all forms of public media as required
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Proven project management, financial planning and forecasting experience with track record in attaining stated goals
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills. Attention to detail
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with all primary social media platforms, and with MS Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Comfortable learning and using online information systems.
  • Flexible and enjoys handling a variety of tasks.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and for extended periods.
  • Valid Driver's License with access to transportation to travel on organization business

 Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to participate in events, including nights and weekends, and assist in the set-up and breakdown of events, including but not limited to, Super Adoptions, Strut Your Mutt, in-market conferences, coalition meeting, and off-site brainstorming.
  • Extended work at a computer with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion
  • Periodic trips to various out-of-state locations such as Kanab, Utah which may require use of public transportation.
  • Ability to move within New York City and surrounding boroughs and states using a mix of public transportation, taxi or car.
