Position Title: Transportation and Maintenance Specialist

Reports to: Support Services Manager

Location: Atlanta Lifesaving Center

FLSA status: Non-exempt (hourly) with a pay expectation of $12/hr

Position Summary: Responsible for transportation needs of the Lifesaving Center, including, but not limited to, picking up supplies and donations, driving animals to vet appointments, picking up intakes from municipal shelters, and long-distance transports. Also, responsible for overseeing general vehicle and building maintenance needs in coordination with the Support Services Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Transport Program with driving needs by prepping and driving the transport vehicle to receiving organizations. This entails traveling for approximately 2-3 days with extended periods of driving while ensuring the care of animals on the transport vehicle. 
  • Assist with picking up animal intakes from municipal shelter partners, taking animals to and from vet appointments, picking up supplies and in-kind donations, as needed.
  • Oversee all Atlanta Lifesaving Center vehicles, including regular maintenance, fuel and cleanliness and ensuring animal crates are clean, accounted for and well maintained daily.
  • Perform regular safety checks of vehicles and building.
  • Anticipate and advise the Support Services Manager of any vehicle or building maintenance needs.
  • In cooperation with the Support Services Manager, coordinate any outside labor needs to address maintenance issues of the center and/or vehicles.
  • Coordinates with management for scheduling and testing of employees and volunteers needing a driver training assessment and completes all assessment paperwork and delivers the results to the Support Services Manager for processing.
  • Provides administrative office support as needed
  • Follows safe work practices and observes safety precautions
  • Performs a variety of physical labor as assigned
  • Keep a clean and safe work area
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Skills and Experience:

  • Basic knowledge of methods, tools and equipment, materials and practices used in construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to perform a variety of maintenance work, such as general building repairs and preventative maintenance is a plus.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to accommodate changes in work priorities and/or scheduling.
  • Valid driver's license with 3 years clean driving record
  • Collaborative nature and willingness to work with various colleagues.
  • Work with a positive outlook: upbeat, energetic, and takes initiative

 Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to routinely lift 65 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including, but not limited to: lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
  • Work at a computer or driving in a car for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, sitting, arm and hand motion.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Long exposure on a daily basis to dogs and cats of all sizes, temperaments and medical status. 
  • Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule: includes weekends, night and holiday work.
